We are proud to announce that we are now Cyber Essentials certified. The certification process involved us completing a full assessment of our systems and verified by a qualified assessor. On completion of the assessment we were awarded with our Cyber Essentials certificate.
Who are Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a government initiative, originally set up in 2012 to help organisations prepare for Cyber-attacks. The scheme is also responsible for the cyber security standard against which organisations can be assessed and certified. This includes recommending 5 security controls that any SME should have in place to reduce the risk of a cyber threat. Which allows SME’s to show their customers that they take cyber security seriously and are proactive.
How Cyber Essentials Can Help With GDPR
With the new GDPR rulings in place and the number cyber threats and malware attacks on the increase, SME’s need ensure their cyber security is up to the task. Under the new GDPR regulations stored personal data is requires protection. However, it does not give any recommendations on how you must proceed. Instead they advise to determine the cyber security based on the personal data you hold and the potential risk if lost or compromised. The Cyber Essentials Scheme can help with by outlining basic practices to put in place. But these are not an overall solution to GDPR requirements.
